The Owner's program was for a sustainable home that was indigenous to the area while capturing the impressive Job's Peak and Carson Valley views. Design to incorporate an informal Great Room, Kitchen and outdoor spaces for many gatherings with family and friends. The Owners also wanted to create a water feature, but one that wasn't contrived. The project has a tight construction budget. To maximize the project's finishes and sustainability, a simple form to reduce the structural cost was a must for this mountainous site. To create the passive and active solar systems, while opening up the roof to the views, we let the mountain's form and varying slopes drive the roof design. By playing with a sloped beam which lies on an angle through the house, our roof drainage created a waterfall. Reclaimed wood and creative detailing without trim has created a rustic house within the tight construction budget.
